About Alberta Mountain Art
My History
I have been an hobbyist woodworker my whole life. One day while visiting friends I saw a mountain painting they had on their wall. I liked the general design and thought it might be fun to try and recreate something similar using wood and dyes instead of acrylic paints. Thus began my journey into creating photo realistic images of Alberta and British Columbia mountains.
My Process
I refer to my unique completely original style as hybrid Intarsia. If you think about a giant puzzle you get a pretty good idea about how my pictures are assembled. An image is transferred to wood and then the image is broken down into progressively smaller pieces that are all individually scroll sawn out, shaped, dyed and then reassembled .The individual pieces are then resawn or shimmed to create a perspective 3D effect. There might be three hundred pieces or more that have to be glued almost simultaneously to create this final image.
After the image is assembled multiple pours of dyed epoxy is used for the water feature. The frames are all custom made from barn wood and mounting hardware is attached.
Our Values
I believe that anything that you build should be able to be enjoyed for generations. All of my art pieces are made to last. I use high quality analine wood dyes and stains protected with multiple layers of varathane spray to protect the colours from fading. The skies are hand painting with acrylic paints. Each custom frames are built using glued half lap joinery.
Commissions
If you have a specific project in mind I am always open to discussion. However I will not work from any copyrighted image unless a licence is first secured from the image owner.
